Vanness Wu vs. Jerry Yan Competes Head On with Prime Time Idol Dramas

Taiwanese idol drama series Down With Love which stars two mega idols, Jerry Yan from F4 and Ella Chen from S.H.E will be making its debut on television screens this weekend. To instill some hype amongst viewers, the production team aired a special episode which consisted of trailers and exclusive interviews with the cast last Sunday.

The ratings for the special trailer episode raked in a meager 0.59% as compared to Jerry’s fellow F4 band member Vanness Wu’s ongoing drama series, Next Stop Happiness, which pulled in a healthy number of 7.15% in ratings.

The four members of F4 have been separately participating in various drama productions lately with Vic Zhou starring in Black & White and The Late Night of Madam Chin, Ken Zhu in the recently-concluded Momo Love, Vanness Wu in the ongoing Next Stop Happiness and Jerry Yan’s soon-to-debut Down With Love.

Due to its similar timeslot, the drama series starring both Vanness and Jerry are expected to compete head-on with each other. Next Stop Happiness is currently the leader of the pack with its strong ratings of 7.15%.

The television station broadcasting Down With Love defended themselves and explained that the special episode cannot be considered as the show’s debut episode. They remain confident that their drama series will perform well when it airs this coming Sunday.

Barbie Hsu at “Hot Summer Days” Press Conference Posted 5 Dec 2009

Barbie Hsu attended the press conference of her new movie “Hot Summer Days”「全城熱戀熱辣辣」in Hong Kong with co-star Nicolas Tse. Barbie reportedly hurt herself during the filming as she was practicing her sword fights scenes. She requested the Director to loan her a sword so she can practice more on her own but was reminded that she won’t be able to on the plane at the airport. So instead, Barbie has been practicing anything she can grab a hold of – newspaper, book etc. Other cast of this movie Daniel Wu, Vivian Hsu who were in Beijing for the same press conference that occurred simultaneously.

Barbie Hsu appeared in jet black outfit that sent fans screaming. She added that this “Smoky” style was the most daring she ever tried. She plays the role of an assassin in the movie. I wonder if she’d be as cool as the assassin in IRIS, So-yeon Kim. Doubt it. :P

The Director revealed shared at the press conference that Barbie wouldn’t come out of the changing room, because she was wearing too little, “Da S told me that she never wore that few clothes!”

The movie will premiere in February 2010.

"Barbie Hsu: Vic Zhou was overly possessive,"

Patty Hou exposed that Vic Zhou was overly possessive of his ex-girlfriend, Barbie Hsu, demanding that she accompanied him whenever he is home and restricting her freedom to meet up with her friends. This resulted in their breakup.

The couple of two years called it quits last year with neither revealing the true reason for the breakup, leaving people to their own conjectures.

Recently, the famous Taiwanese host, Hou, friend of Hsu and co-actor with Zhou in a drama of sweet relationship, revealed the reason for the couple's breakup over an interview session with the latter.

Hou said, "Whenever I call to ask Barbie out, she would tell me in a hush hush tone: I can't, Vic is around."

She added that Zhou would demand that Hsu refrain from talking to him whenever he was gaming or watching DVDs. Hou asked of Zhou, "Why do you keep watching the same DVD over and over again? And you have to make her watch it with you, keeping her away from her friends?"

The question made the F4 member embarrassed and he asked, "Who told you all these?" When he found out that his ex-girlfriend was the revealer, he laughed, "Don't rack up the past. I was too obstinate then. I take pity on my ex-girlfriend."

In a survey "Which ex-couple do you wish to see reconciled?" Hsu and Zhou were at top position with 54,000 votes, gaining 18,000 more votes than Hou and Jay Chou at second position.

vaness and the bride

For ever f4

the most handsome guy ever.Vic Zhou comes to Jerry Yan's defense; tacit understanding with Da S kept in heart

Translation: Sarah @ http://asianfanatics.net

Yesterday afternoon, Vic Zhou (Zai Zai) attended a ‘Spread Love To Si Chuan’ charity event in Hong Kong. Someone mentioned that out of F4, only he can be nominated for the Golden Bell Awards, but he stuck up for Jerry Yan. When asked whether ex-girlfriend Barbie Hsu (Da S) has congratulated him yet, Zai Zai said it’s fine to keep these things in one’s heart.

Zai Zai has been nominated for ‘Best Actor’ for Taiwanese drama ‘Black & White’ in the Golden Bell Awards, but he is optimistic for his senior Zhang Shi instead. He feels that he has already achieved his goal by being nominated: “To me, this is already a very good confirmation, I hope my work in the future will be successful.” When asked whether his ex-girlfriend Da S has congratulated him yet, Zai Zai replied: “I don’t like congratulations and praises, it’s fine to keep these things in one’s heart, saying it out feels very fake.”

Although Jerry Yan is also filming dramas, but someone at the event said that amongst the Taiwanese F4 members, only Zai Zai can be nominated. But he said: “I want to speak in Jerry’s defense, I’ve participated in the most dramas. I really treasure the time us 4 spend together, without them, there wouldn't be me today.”

Barbie Hsu

Barbie started out with her sister as a girl band called ASOS in Taiwan. They became popular because of their funny and daring attitudes. Afterwards, they both hosted 100% entertainment (Yu Le Bai Fen Bai) for more than 8 years; the show is still running but both of their contracts have ended. Barbie became famous after her first drama, Meteor Garden, as the female lead Shan Cai, and was recognized again for her excellent performances in Phantom Lover and Mars. She is now focusing on acting in movies and series. Her recent drama with Show Lo has made the audience continue to recognize her strong abilities.

Ken Zhu

Ken Chu Hsiao-tien (Chinese: 朱孝天; pinyin: Zhū Xiàotiān; born January 15, 1979 in Taiwan) is a famous Mandopop singer and composer, he is one of the members of the famous Taiwanese boy band F4 and also a prominent Taiwanese drama actor. Educated in Singapore (Boon Lay Secondary School), he speaks Mandarin, Cantonese and English.

He was working as a waiter in Taiwan when he was discovered by Cai Zhiping, the creator of the boy band F4. He started in showbiz working as a part time as an assistant for some artists, then acting in several idol series successfully which pushed him to the center of the stage. He starred in the TV series, Meteor Garden, and its sequel, Meteor Garden II. He was the lead in Sky of Love (2003) and Tokyo Trial (2006). In January 2005, he released his most anticipated solo album, On Ken's Time. He also released a cookbook, Mei Wei Guan Xi (Delicious Relations) on January 5, 2006. It was released in China on July 4, 2006, and four months later in Japan. Chu is now focusing on his solo acting career and has a huge fan base in Asia.

Jerry Yan

Jerry Yan is one of Taiwan most popular actors. Jerry is one of the 4 members of boy-band F4 and is famous for his TV dramas like Meteor Garden and The Hospital.

Jerry Yan started his entertainment career as a model. Jerry is already quite famous before given chance in acting, starring as leading actor in TV drama Meteor Garden in 2001, which turned out to be a super hit in Taiwan and across Asia, and Jerry became an instant superstar.

Jerry Yan and the other 3 leading male actors in Meteor Garden were formed into a band, named F4 (adapted from the drama) and released their first album Meteor Rain in concurrent with the TV drama.

Meteor Garden was a decent success, and the band released another album Fantasy 4ever. F4 is not officially disbanded, but all the members are working on solo these days.

Jerry Yan continued to star in some TV dramas, including Meteor Garden 2 (sequel in 2002) and The Hospital (2006).

Jerry Yan also has a solo album under his name, The First Time that was released in 2004. It’s also in 2004 that Jerry starred in his only movie so far, Magic Kitchen alongside Sammi Cheng and Andy Lau.

Jerry Yan is often linked with Taiwan top supermodel Lin Zhi Ling, but both of them have denied being together.

Vic Zhou

Meteor Garden was based from a Japanese manga (comics) “Boys Are Prettier Than Flowers” by Yoko Kamio.

Vic Zhou was 19 and a Mechanical Engineering student at a Taiwanese Technical Institute when his parents got divorced.

When Vic was releasing his first solo album, F3 said they wouldn’t attend the event. But in the end they showed up. Vic was moved to the extent that he had tears in his eyes.

If Vic has a mysterious character on Meteor Garden, off-camera he’s humorous (a personality that he got from his Mother). There are also times when he’s serious (a personality that he’s got from his Father).

There’s this scene (on Meteor Garden) at Okinawa beach where Vic and Barbie were hugging for quite a while. The director didn’t know that Vic’s eyelids got caught on Barbie’s bra strap. Though Vic was in pain, he just tried to ignore it until the whole scene ended. Barbie together with F3 laughed when Vic told them the whole thing.

Vic never really thought of auditioning for Meteor Garden. He just helped his friend to audition but the producer caught Vic and thought that he’s the right character that they’ve been looking for. Vic refused at first because he didn’t want his friend to get hurt. In person, Vic is almost like Hua Ze Lei (his role on Meteor Garden). A good person with a good heart, and a loving friend to Shan Cai.

Vic is the youngest F4 member. He’s the baby of the group =). He’s usually spoiled by the F3. When Vic gets bored on the Meteor Garden shoot, Jerry lends his cellphone to Vic and lets him play with it.

Vic loves to sleep. When he’s tired, he likes to sleep for a t least 10 hours. And guess what happens when he gets dead tired… He cries.

Vic’s nickname is Zai-Zai. A name given by his grandmother. Once when they were performing on a concert, Vic was singing the song “Ai Zai Ai Ni”. Jerry playfully changed the lyrics to “Zai-Zai ai ni”.

Vic will never forget the time when he was in high school. He was rejected by the girl he likes.

Vic has a big crush on Barbie’s younger sister, Xiao Si.

Vic and Barbie became close during the shoot of Meteor Garden because Barbie helped Vic understand some Chinese words that he doesn’t know.

Vic blushed and was overwhelmed when a two-year-old girl came up to him and held his hand telling him that when she grows up, she wants to marry him.

Vic is the only one that could make Jerry laugh.

When Vic’s got time to rest, if he’s not playing computer games, he’s either eating or sleeping.

Some overzealous fans and paparazzi’s caused Zai-Zai some trouble on his school. Not only will they chase him up to his gate, but some fans even run into his classroom. So he decided to transfer from his school.

Though Zai-Zai is super busy now, he still continues his studies. When Zai-Zai swithced his school, rumors went wild on the students about an F4 member studying in their school. Which resulted students looking for him in his classroom, leaving messages for him, carving love confession on his table that makes him quite embarassed.

Some fans would swarm to his school and whenever they spot him without any bodygurd with him, they would rush up to him and grab his hands. Some fans would even pass camera’s to Zai-Zai’s classmates and ask them to take a picture of him while he’s studying. And again, Zai-Zai decided to switch school.

His fans adoration is too much. When he casually say something, it gets his fans attention. Like there was this one time when he was just casually singing this “Doramon” song or the “QOO” song, fans started giving him presents that has something to do with Doraemon or Qoo.

Among F4 members, Vic’s fans seems to be the most obsessed and extreme. There was one time when a fan from Singapore called a radio station and claimed to be Vic’s wife.

Fans always hit his head or pinch his face which he cannot stand the most. Everytime he appears, the crowd gets wild and his head suffers the most. He even told F3 that if he’ll ever leave the music industry one day, it’s because he doesn’t want to get his head hurt.

July 2002 when Vic had to quit school due to his loaded schedule.

During a concert at Guangzhou on a Saturday, Vic was so tired that he actully fell on his knees while doing some steps in the middle of performance. he was so weak that he couldn’t get up on his own and had to be helped by Ken. He kept his arm around Vic to support him.
